I never had any idea that this is what the "Charismatic" denomination was and is, although you probably could infer its meaning from just the definition of this word alone. Now in our political age, we see "Charismatic" as "our president," Martin Luther King Jr, or some similar figure who speaks smooth and convincing words. Never did I realize there was a "Charismatic" denomination ... I did not look at it intently any way. I would see the option, like on a check-box or something, but never did I know what it implied.

Very good to know that Charismatic denomination's two main components are speaking in tongues and faith healing. This may be cause for fear, however, because charismatics (not "charismatics" as in "people," but the act of charisma-- CHARISMATICS) do seem like they would involve irrational, unlikely, and non-conventional doings. Hm. Daunting. Yet, this is what I am passionate about; my new-found word thanks to this book-- "faith healing," miracles, laying of hands, LANGUAGE. So we have Pentecostal/Holiness, Apostolic ... and now "Charismatic."

It seems like much of what we should be reading, and much of what we should know is lost in books. Lost in books in that no one is reading them, no one is passing the information along. If you do not read the books, the information will remain hidden. Tonight I learned a new word, "GLOSSOLALIA." This is pretty much a code-word for THE ACT OF SPEAKING IN TONGUES. ... ahem, an "academic term." It comes from the Greek for "tongue speaking." So I began my search for books on glossolalia. Call me a conspiracist, but everything is hidden. How do we know what to search for if we don't search it out?

Reading ~ C.E. Orr

I am reading these free e-books on Amazon Kindle for PC and I am having such a lovely time. I began by typing these into Twitter, soon realizing most are too long for the 140 character limit, so I am transcribing them here. Consider this my little journey through these books. Like, a studying guide, per se. Typing them out helps me to realize them more and entices greater appreciation.

"How to Live a Holy Life" by C.E. Orr, this is one which peaked my interest. We should grow in our Lord in grace, amen. I will stay lowly and humble in our God. I do enjoy reading these [books] pleasurably. They are insurmountable regarding my hobbies and things that I partake in. I'm grateful that I am able to share in this. Most times I am just enamored by "the idea of reading" and "the idea of books." Like as in, a collector of books. A bibliophile. This is what I am proclaiming to be and have been since early this year. It's a pretty spiffy title. A book-gatherer. A sharer of thoughts, ideas and innovations. A good thing.

Too few, I fear, realize how important to our spiritual advancement is the cultivation of a taste for devotional reading. ~C.E. Orr

...those who have a taste for spiritual books and gratify that taste prosper in the Lord, while those who have no relish for such books labor at a great disadvantage. ~C.E. Orr

Spiritual reading invigorates the intellect, arms the affections, and begets in us a desire for more of God's fulness and for a more heavenly life. ~C.E. Orr

This here sentence has taken me for a loop. So very loaded with perfect things to sit upon. "Spiritual reading invigorates the intellect," AHH so very much so. Ohh it satisfies a deep thing within me. A deep spiritual thing within me, amen. YES, GOD is all I can say. Do you remember my post "Ugh" from August? That tiny phrase just written above is my full expression of the post "Ugh." Hmmm, spiritual reading ignites the senses, fulfills the minds wanderings and keeps us in tact. It's that godly mental stimulation that takes us to another level. That extra level that we need to remind of us our spiritual nature in Christ.

I really think speech is directly related to a higher knowledge, which is why I am so passionate about "all things holy" and "all things godly," speaking in tongues and intercession, Sign Language (ASL), all languages, reading and gaining a larger vocabulary. Everything is intertwined.

Holiness is the gateway to all of these perfect things. God will teach us a new language, He will give us a new word to sign, a word to speak in Hebrew and later reveal its meaning. Holiness is God's revelation to His people.

"and God talked with him"

That's all I really want. Is for God to talk with me. With the season I'm in and the books I've been reading, and the shows I've come across, the name "God" has become so impersonal. I am glad that the true children of God know Him by His holy names, that way we can feel closer to Him and it truly does put things in perspective. People can blaspheme, abuse the name of "God" all they want, of course I do not approve, but I know Him through the fullness of His name. Amen.

The other evening I was reading my Bible, flipping through like I normally do and ended up at Genesis. I was glad I ended up at Genesis because I wasn't in a "psalms" or "proverbs," or even "new testament" mood.

Genesis 17:1-5,

¹And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.

²And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.

³And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying,

⁴As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations.

⁵Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.

When I read verse 3, "And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying," I knew I had my next blog post. This is my life's desire. To worship GOD and have Him "talk with me." Sigh, it makes me smile ever so slightly and fills my entire being with joyfulness. The fullness of GOD my God. To have Him know you by name and even change your name to meet His holiness (see v. 5).

I knew I had found the core of my life in this very verse. All I have been saying for more than a year now: "I just want to love God." Loving Him is to worship Him and to worship Him is to obey His commands ("and be thou perfect," v. 1), and to delight in them.

I am so glad I got to blog this. Bless you all much this great day and this holiday season.

Journaling.

I cannot stress how important journaling is to every believer. It is more essential than blogging, and tweeting. It is a piece of your cornerstone in Christ. A handbook that accompanies you throughout your journey in Christ. A handbook that is second-nature to your Bible.

Just the other evening I lie on my back with my five journals cupped between my hands, held high. A smile came over me. A pleasantry filled my body. I was ecstatic. In my hands, I hold my testimonies, my conversations with God, our time spent together-- His encouragement, His teachings! Everything pertaining to our time together spent these past four years! Revelation, inspiration; it was all there.

Glory to GOD alone!

God has been reminding me how important it is to re-read your older journals, starting with the first, and reading them in the order they were written; kind of like a multi-volume work. New and existing revelations are to be had. Reminders are within those pages; wonderful things await you.

Status Update #6

BOOKS

Grateful for this day. SO glad on this day. Thanking God for this DAY.

Mornings make me smile just as much as Sunday afternoons. I've considered the previous blog post and I wanted to make sure I clarified what I was feeling at that time (and still feel frequently).

I wasn't going to, because I thought, "Why should I have to clarify? It's my blog." lol :( But, then I realized that what I meant may have gotten lost in the words I typed.

I live with my parents. Now, re-read that blog post with that in mind. LOL :X haha. I love them, truly I do. Yet, I need my own space. I need my own space. I have my room, the one I grew up in. And, I love it. It's tiny, but it's sooo full of my personality and that's what I adore.

Here's a part of my joy:

My growing, multi-faceted book collection. This past winter I've dubbed myself a self-proclaimed "bibliophile," a collector and connoisseur of books :) Haha. I'm a beginner/novice, however! Hehe. Every other week I'm grabbing a new book on Amazon.com. The last one I purchased was on euphemisms, called In Other Words by Dominique Enright. I've learned so much from that. Beforehand I had learned that words like "Gosh," "Jeez/Geez," and "Darn/Dang" were all euphemisms for ungodly words. Gosh [╪ God] and Jeez/Geez [╪ Jesus] are blasphemies. And of course Darn/Dang is a euphemism for DAMN. So, this book has those euphemisms in them as well as some new ones I never imagined would be blasphemies: Jimminy Cricket and Jeepers Creepers [both ╪ Jesus Christ] . Wild, huh?

And, the book before that which I purchased as well, Dictionary of Angels: Including the Fallen Angels by Gustav Davidson is grrreat. I love it! Such an extensive resource. And, accurate. I'm always looking up angels :) One I've found fascinating, is Lilith. She's deemed to be a "bad angel," or fallen angel/demon spirit, if I may say. She's the [fallen] angel of Friday, who entices lust and ungodly thoughts/behaviors in individuals.

I've always discerned that something was up with Fridays, and have never enjoyed them. There's always a dark spiritual atmosphere/presence on Friday nights. I really hate it. But, then again I'm thankful because every Friday I feel a longing within me for God and His spirit. Like, even though it's "dark" out, I know God's Spirit is with me, \o/ So, a doubled-edged sword there. I'm glad I grabbed this book, lots to praise God for!!

Gail Gray is an ex-Alpha Kappa Alpha, Fred is an ex-Omega Psi Phi, and I have a friend who is an ex-Kappa Alpha Psi. On Fred's forum/discussion board (see link at end) there are several testimonies of those who have left Alpha Phi Alpha. My sister is a Delta Sigma Theta, but I'm believing GOD for her renunciation. If you ever need any help finding these books, or need someone to talk to about everything we've been discussing on this board, please don't hesitate to send me a PM or something. I know our LORD Jesus will give you revelation from the words written in these testimonies.

Throughout her testimony, Gail mentions whether or not "people came after her" after she denounced, etc and how God had her personally pack up and move like Abraham. She also mentions how people leave their organization because they have a conviction in their spirit that they cannot ignore (literally cannot ignore)... this is called an unction from the Holy Spirit.

One thing Gail mentions in her podcast that is crucial in understanding God's will for His people getting out of these organizations and NOT joining these organizations is: "the will of the FLESH" vs. "the will of GOD." The will of the flesh is powerful. She said that she willed it in her flesh for her to be a member of AKA. And to be careful because people will say "I prayed to the LORD, and that was my answer." (I actually knew an Alpha who told me this, God forgive him and LORD help us get into YOUR will, and OUT of our own).

Luke 22:42 says
42Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.

Gail encourages us to sincerely and in honesty pray in our hearts the prayer above that JESUS prayed, when asking the LORD Jesus about joining these organizations. All of the fraternities and sororities associate themselves (oaths of allegiance/secrecy or both) with a pagan/false god whether covertly or overtly (she also explains why they say they don't "worship" the god, but if you confess it with your mouth through the oaths, it becomes your god whether or not you bow down to it every day). It's a deadly spiritual bond/yoke.

If we let our own fleshly will go, we won't get caught up in these organizations which are displeasing to God our Father because it is not in His heavenly, holy and righteous will.

Listen to her podcast/TESTIMONY once, twice, three times... as many times as necessary; take notes. I've heard it at least seven times and I thank GOD for the undeniable truth in it (see link at end for Gail’s Testimony) Don't forget your other resources including your Bible.

I say, don't stop seeking the truth. The LORD Jesus will HONOR your search if your whole heart is in it. God keep you sis and I pray your strength and the strength of those reading this, and your personal continuing desire to please a HOLY GOD.

This issue is not new to me, but I enjoy revisiting it at times and helping others realize the severity of sororities and fraternities and its detrimental effects on the spiritual-man. Last year I went through a process and dropped right before the end because it did not sit well with me at all. I couldn't shake the thoughts and the feelings I had about it. Now looking back I'm glad I did. It was a conviction for ME. I was very clear as to why I dropped and it did create some serious tension but now everything is back to 'normal' as far as my relations with the other women and my would have been line sisters. Please pray if you are considering joining a sorority. There are things that don't tell you until you join. it's not as friendly and innocent as it seems.

Movie & Books

Fireproof
I watched this movie the other evening. I'm not a big movie-buff, so this was a bit out of the ordinary for me. Yet, I LOVE a good Christian movie (and let me tell you that there are HARDLY any out there). I don't cry at movies, I hardly even cry at funerals, if you can fathom that truth... but, this one made me cry some. I'm not really good giving reviews, but I definitely know when I like a movie/book and when I don't. This one was great... with great resources:

Boy Meets Girl: Say Hello to Courtship by Joshua Harris
This here is a book I've been wanting for a while. I ordered it a few days ago and it came in the mail recently! It was on my wish list along with his other book "I Kissed Dating Goodbye." Both are books that encourage courtship and a godly union between a man and woman who seek the please the Lord in all of their doings. I personally no longer agree with dating, the world's way of finding a mate. It does not have the same characteristics and qualities of courtship. It's as if you have to go through trial and error in order to experience love... I don't approve. I'm interested in beginning this book right away, but I'm already in between three other books, so I'll have to wait!

The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis
I've never read any books by C.S. Lewis if you can believe that, even with being a graduate of religious studies! So, this one will be a first. I've read the reviews on Amazon.com and I must say that I'm quite impressed. The book is written from the perspective of a grand demon [Screwtape] who writes letters to his nephew, and up and coming demon, giving him tips and advice on how to tempt various Christians [referred to as "patients"].

The Christian author is very successful in invoking repentant feelings within the one reading it because it's like reading a book written by Satan himself; in the author's case, from the perspective of Satan. It's a very intriguing book, from what I've read and I've already learned a few life-changing lessons from simply reading small excerpts from the book! I'm excited. Go check out Amazon.com's reviews and I bet you'll be taken back a bit as well.

Happy Is He

Hey You!!

I hope everyone is having a blessed Friday. God has been so miraculous. I was reflecting on His graciousness just last evening and couldn't fall asleep as quickly. Man, the Lord has brought me through so much. I haven't even talked about even the likes of it here on this blog. Phenomenal is our God, He is leading me to write a book... wow, Lord. Just went through this trial and test two months ago and I already feel the Holy Spirit tugging on me to write a testimonial. Glory. So, be on the lookout... you'll be one of the first to hear about it.

Bible Study this Week

Earlier this week Pastor Nichols' message was "I refuse to kill myself and I will not lay down and die."

Mark 4:19 says "And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful."

He used this scripture to let us know that the devil desires to wear us out naturally, physically and spiritually so that we become unfruitful in the Lord and discontinue doing His will. Pastor Nichols spoke about the wayside hearers [of the Word], the stonyground hearers and the thornyground hearers...

• Don't allow thorns to influence you.
• Be in a position to develop deep roots, meaning-- stay in God's will. Don't do anything to purposely get out of God's line of vision. Stay focused, keep your eye on the prize.
• Don't allow thorns to choke the life out of you, the Word that God has placed within you.

Pastor also spoke that the pursuit of happiness is vain. "Happiness is not something you pursue, but something we receive." The Book of Ecclesiastes is a great reference book in terms of vanity and futility.

• Proverbs 29:18 says "Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he."
• Psalm 146:5 says "Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God:"
  

"Happy" in the Old Testament translates to the Hebrew word "esher" which means blessed. In the New Testament, the word "happy" translates to the Greek word "makarios" which also means blessed, supremely blest, fortunate, well-off... blessed, HAPPY. This is what the joy of the Lord is. When we are content in the Lord, we are happy.

I thank God for showing me this. Because, we do have a tendency to not be happy until our circumstances permit or until God does something for us, but God forgive our ungratefulness. We are already blessed... we should already be happy in the Lord! If you have salvation, blessed and Happy is He. If you've got your health and you're breathing, praise God, shout unto the Lord you're blessed! I thank God for His mercy. What are you thankful for today? How has God blessed you-- How happy, blessed and content in the Lord are you?

Women of the Bible: Eve

The first chapter of the book focuses on the first woman mentioned in the Bible: Eve herself. This was a fun, thought-provoking read. Sometimes we need to recap, relive and reevaluate scriptures that we may have read in past days. It helps us to remember, reflect and appreciate scripture more. This is was happened when I read about Eve and The Garden of Eden.

It was so refreshing, and looking at all of the pictures I found online that reflected depiction of The Garden of Eden was refreshing and reassuring as well. Just to think, that The Garden of Eden was Paradise. No picture by man can do it any justice. I can only imagine. We can only imagine. Just think about when we leave this earth [the saints of God] and when Christ returns... we'll be going home to be with our Saviour in Paradise. God said there will be a new earth. A world without famine, drought, pain, suffering and disease. How mighty is our God? Glorious is He.

Here is an excerpt from the book "Women of the Bible" concerning the woman Eve and the Book of Genesis:

Lift Your Heart
"Find a peaceful setting, surrounded by the beauty of creation, to meditate on what life must have been like if you experienced peace in all your relationships, if you never suffered physical or emotional pain, if you were never confused or ashamed or guilty, if you always experienced God's love and friendship. Let your imagination run riot as it fills in the details of God's original intention for your life and for those you love.

"Then consider this: You were made for paradise. The joys you taste now are infinitesimal compared to those that await you in heaven, "But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him." (I Corinthians 2:9).

Praise Jesus.

"Father, give me a greater understanding of your original plan for our world. Help me to envision its beauty so I might live with a constant awareness that you intend to restore paradise to all who belong to you. Christian Fiction, Not So Fictitious

As you may know, today I began my reading endeavor of Christian Fiction books. I only checked out one book at the Library, but one is more than enough for my Christian Fiction beginner-status.

I was weary of delving into such a genre. Christian Fiction? I thought, c'mon... that can't be nothing but a bunch of nonsensical junk.

Although I may not know much about this particular genre, its authors or its reputation, what I do know is that-- from reading 34 pages thus far of this 269-page work, there's a lot of truth to it. The book is "Strongholds" by Vanessa Davis Griggs. The book is comprised of the stories of several persons who have strongholds, generational curses or internal weaknesses of their own that hold them back from growing closer to God. These strongholds can keep people out of God's will for some time.

So far I have one particular character-favorite. Her name is Arletha. It's the words written on the page of this Christian Fiction novel that move me, not necessarily the character herself. Why? Because the words are truth, anyone can say or think the words, not just Arletha... the book says fiction because the characters are not actual people-- but they are real people!

These characters represent total, utter and complete truth! The only reason it's labeled as Christian Fiction is because it's not some biography of someone's actual life. But either way, it's not the whole story, so it's labeled as fiction. That's it. That's the only reason.

Anywho, back to my favorite part of the book thus far. Here's some real truth that I found almost too profound to be in a Christian Fiction novel, or any "fictitious" work for that matter:

• "I don't believe you can be saved just by confessing your sins and believing on Jesus. Now don't go get all confused about what I just said. I do believe on Jesus, Lord knows I believe in Jesus. But the notion that all you have to do to get to heaven is to just confess you're a sinner, then accept Jesus as your savior and that's it-- you're now guaranteed a place in heaven without proving you're worthy-- is a bunch of hogwash! ...But, frankly, I'm tired of people telling and buying into that lie." --Arletha
• "...following the popular, worldly ways of late--trying to get more people to come to church and fill up some of those empty pews. Just selling out. I figure if folks don't want to come... too bad. We shouldn't change the type of songs we sing just because the attendance has fallen off and folks are flocking to all these other churches. ...Hip-Hop gospel, gospel rap: whoever heard of such nonsense! When will folks get it? ...People want to start changing everything, liven things up. Cutting out testimony service. ...just because they want to get out of church earlier. Wake up, people! These are the last days." --Arletha
• "Folks reading all kinds of filthy magazines and books, sleeping with any and everybody, smoking, doping, lying, cheating--sinning like there's no tomorrow. You can't hardly walk into a store these days without half-naked men and women jumping out at you off the covers of stuff. And the TV, Lord, you talk about an idle mind being the devil's workshop. I have to protect my eye and ear gates." --Arletha

Man, if I wasn't Whitney, I'd think Arletha was Whitney! ...or atleast speaking for Whitney. LOL. She was talking some real talk, or better yet, the author Vanessa Davis Griggs was talking some real talk. Those were her words, atleast most of them. Not Arletha's.

Women of the Bible

So I went on a trip to the Library today. I love that it's right down the street from my house, within walking distance. I went in-search-of some Christian Fiction novels to read for the first time. I did end up grabbing one book, so that should be a fun read.

I also found another book at the last minute titled "Women of the Bible." It's a one-year devotional that focuses on "fifty-two remarkable women in scripture." I know this one's going to be great. I can't wait to dive in. It's a very expansive book, written like no other I've seen. I love the various sections and titles. I'll keep you posted ;)
